Why I started this
My dad served in World War II. My mom taught elementary school in Los Angeles Unified for more than 35 years.
So I grew up between two kinds of service. One of them shows up in history books. The other one shows up in a classroom, every school day, for other people's kids.
This is me serving my country.
I know what one teacher can do. My Repro-Graphics teacher at Chatsworth High School went out and got a grant from Apple. Our principal, Mrs. Smith, was amazing: instead of saying no, the school said yes, partnered with Apple, and let him teach a class that had never been taught there before.
In 1988 I was the only student in it. One teacher, one kid, one Mac. Together we produced the entire school newspaper on that computer, and the registration came back perfect.
Every kid deserves a teacher who sees what is coming, and a principal who says yes.
Here is what I see. AI can now teach a lesson to any kid, anywhere, at any hour. Other countries are rebuilding school around that right now. And we are still having the same fights about school we have had for decades.
I'm not asking anyone to change parties. Keep yours. Keep every opinion you have. I'm asking for one thing: put education first, together, because a school year never comes back.
Leave left and right at the door.
